Gravity Drinking Water Filters

Slow Sand Solutions

SSS400 – 400 Gallons per Day

SSS1800 – 1800 Gallons per Day

The SSS400 supplies 400 gallons per day of safe drinking water from surface water sources, more than enough for emergency applications of small groups or single family dwellings. The SSS400 utilizes all the features of our larger filters including long filter runs, easy harrowing cleaning, and simple flow control.  These features make it possible for most end users to install, operate and maintain this filter without outside "experts" or expensive ongoing materials costs.

The SSS1800, a larger version of the SSS400, provides 1800 gallons per day of safe drinking water.  This unit can easily function as a central point of filtration for water that can be distributed in smaller containers and can service small villages or groups of people.

Components and Specs

Tank per Specification

            SSS400                         2 foot Diameter x 48” Height

            SSS1800                       4 foot Diameter x 50” Height

Plumbing Package per Spec

Each system has a field installable plumbing package complete with instructions that is designed to easily be installed at site with little training required.  In a short period of time, the entire system can be assembled and ready for use.

Site Prep of Unit

These units require filling with both gravel and sand as part of the assembly process and must be provided by client at the site.  This sand and gravel is normally available in most areas and therefore much cheaper than shipping.

Plumbing Installation – easy to install plumbing kit is field installed in minutes.

Gravel – 3/8” pea gravel, often found locally in river beds, is required in unit – 4 to 6”base

Sand Size - .2mm to .45mm        Use sand screen to eliminate fine dust, wash, and fill unit to prescribed level (36” for SSS400)

Unit is ready to operate

Flow Rate

SSS400 – 400 gallons per day (continuous rating), or .2778 gallons per minute

SSS1800 – 1800 gallons per day (cont. rating), or 1.25 gallon per minute

These units can be connected to raw water feed tanks and pure water product tanks to facilitate fast dispensing of water or to simply the feed water process.  Single tank application will require regular batch raw water supply to the system and more constant drawing off of pure water in order to perform at rated capacity.

Technology

The SSS uses proprietary technology (patent pending) incorporates a number of state of the art features including factory set filtration rate and a device that measures head loss (to tell you when to clean),  prevent siphon, prevent airlocks, and prevent accidental dewatering of the bio layer.

The filter also uses our signature wet harrowing technique- by far the most effective and trouble free way to clean a slow sand filter.

Emergency Applications

There is a catastrophic earthquake.  Your water treatment plant and distribution lines, are out of service.  There is no power. Your storage tanks are draining from multiple pipeline leaks.  The roads to your community are out.  You have 1500 people depending on you for drinking water, and all emergency services that might come from the city are busy with their own titanic challenges.

What do you do now?

The answers may surprise you.  Some places have to deal with these problems on a daily basis.  We have the experience and expertise to help you come up with a plan and implement it so that should that day come, you will be prepared to supply drinking and wash water for those looking to you for their own survival.
