Model 1000 Shower Filter with Chromed Shower Head
Replaceable cartridge shown on left

Filtration Media consists of KDF-55 and Crystalline Quartz

The KDF filtration media removes chlorine through a method called redox. The two dissimilar metals in KDF, copper and zinc, create a galvanic or electrolytic reaction which causes two chlorine ions to combine with a zinc ion to form a harmless zinc chloride molecule. Unlike carbon medias, the KDF does not retain the chlorine; rather, it changes the chlorine into a harmless compound.

The model 1000 shower filter utilizes a specially formulated type of KDF for better overall performance. The 14 ounces of KDF in each model 1000 replaceable cartridge performs with the effectiveness of 15.5 ounces of regular KDF media.

Crystalline Quartz media, also contained in the model 1000 shower filter, acts to reduce the water's surface tension. This has the effect of increasing the sudsing and lathering activity of soaps and shampoos. This enhanced lathering activity is similar to that of softened water. Many experience an "energized" feel from the activity of the Crystalline Quartz filter meda.

KDF filter media is commonly used in treating drinking water and has no toxic effect whatever. Similarly, the Crystalline Quartz media is fully non-toxic. It is washed and sun-cured prior to assembly in the model 1000 filter cartridge.

The model 1000 shower filter typically removes more than 90% of free chlorine present in your water supply. Reduction levels of 95% are commonly achieved, but due to fluctuations in flow, pressure and water temperature, 95% reduction levels cannot be consistently guaranteed.

The life expectancy of your cartridge and its efficiency are determined in part by the quality of your incoming water supply. If heavy levels of sediment are present in the water, the KDF media can become clogged which would reduce its efficiency. Some sediment and turbidity will inevitably enter the filter, but the design of the model 1000 shower filter minimizes this problem. The sediment trapping screen at the filter inlet will retain much of this sediment. Hence this screen should be checked from time to time and cleaned as necessary. There is no need to backwash this filter, since the internal jet cone has been designed to eliminate the need for backwashing.

Although KDF has been proven effective in lead removal, there is no conclusive data at this time to substantiate its ability to remove lead in shower filters, due to the limited space available for media, limited contact time at typical shower flow rates, etc.

The model 1000 shower filter cartridge is estimated to have the capcity of treating 15,000 to 20,000 gallons of water prior to cartridge replacement. For a typical family of four, this would be roughly 9-12 months of service. Due to varying water quality, these results may be different in your case. The model 1000 body should last several years with proper care. The recommended flow rate for optimum performance is 2.25 gallons per minute. This flow rate has been specified by the US Energy Policy Act of 1992. A low flow type shower head, such as those available with GET shower filters, is recommended for proper performance.

The GET model 1000 shower filter is available with no shower head, with a quality low flow chromed shower head made by Whedon or with a massage shower head made by Niagra. It is compatible with most low flow shower heads, including hand held units, particularly those manufactured after 1995.

Installation of the GET model 1000 shower filter is very easy. Simply unscrew the shower head on your existing shower arm and screw the GET model 1000 shower head on the shower arm in its place. No thread sealant is required. Hand tighten only.

Replacement of the model 1000 cartridge is also very easy. Simply unscrew the body cap, pull out the existing cartridge, check for proper seating of the O-rings, insert the new cartridge, and screw the body together again.

Your old cartridge may be recycled. Simply mail to the address on the box.
