GET PBCES Pebble Bed Clean Energy Systems Spent Fuel Discussion
GET, Inc. offers the most advanced Pebble Bed Modular Reactor (PBMR) electrical
power generators available today. Our specific state-of-the-art design is known
as the Pebble Bed Clean Energy System (PBCES). This power source is environmentally
friendly, with no greenhouse gas emissions or other air pollution, no water
pollution, & very low space consumption. Long distance power transmission lines
are normally not needed, further improving environmental impact. Environmental groups may suggest that these systems, being nuclear, produce hazardous wastes. However, the facts are that the fuel needed has already been amply provided on earth, (See “The Nuclear Garden” by James Lovelock) and our systems make good use of this fuel’s potential without adding in any way to the radioactive nature of the fuel. Once the 3 year useful life of our fuel pebbles has been consumed, the pebbles have many constructive & beneficial uses, which can result in a substantial reduction of dangerous man-made chemicals. These include agricultural, medical, shipping & water treatment. In addition, the pebbles may be recycled. So in reality, possession of used fuel pebbles is an asset, not a liability. If storage is needed, this is simplified by the pebble construction, which hermetically seals in the fuel, preventing leaching or other contamination, and blocking harmful radiation. Hence, a simple concrete bunker of modest size is the only requirement. The used pebbles can be profitably & beneficially used to enhance the life & reduce spoilage of farm produce. Extensive studies have been done proving that, using gamma rays from the pebbles similar to medical applications, no health risks exist and showing that spoilage is reduced by 90% or more, while also maintaining the quality of the produce much longer. This can have substantial environmental and economic impact and can increase the world’s food supply. Presently, massive amounts of toxic chemicals are used to treat pallets, crates & containers used in international shipping to prevent migration of pests. These very toxic chemicals (mostly methane-bromide) can be eliminated by use of used fuel pebbles to disinfect the pallets & crates, with very significant positive environmental impact. In water treatment, the pebbles can disinfect water in much the same way as ultra violet rays, commonly used today and considered totally safe. From an economic standpoint, the used pebbles can be a significant source of revenue, not a cost liability. From an environmental standpoint, the used pebbles can be beneficially utilized to solve problems and to reduce pollution. In summary, there is no negative impact from the use of the fuel pebbles used in GET SGR power generation systems.
