Today’s world urgently needs electrical power, and also urgently needs to reduce greenhouse emissions. GET SGRs offer the ideal solution to these needs, while delivering totally safe low cost electricity. In the past, nuclear power has been criticized and opposed due to some serious accidents, and the possibility of others. PBMR technology, utilizing a hermitically sealed fuel pebble, now provides an inherently safe solution to these risks.

 

The pebble, shown on the left, is about the size of a tennis ball. The graphic to the right shows the design, with a kernel of nuclear fuel in the core, hermetically sealed by strategic layers of graphite & silicon carbide for total safety. Separating the fuel kernels in this way makes it impossible for the fuel to overheat & cause a meltdown. Further, the heat is extracted for energy production by using only totally inert helium as the transport medium, so no possibility of contamination exists. The heated helium is then used to produce steam which drives a turbine connected to an electrical generator.

GET SGR power generators offer the following commercial advantages. Due to small modular size and total inherent safety, the systems can be installed anywhere they are needed close to points of peak consumption. This avoids the need to install capital intensive long distance power lines, which also cause transmission related power losses, require massive use of space, and are unsightly as well. There is no shortage of fuel for GET SGR power generators; abundant fuel exists for thousands of years of use. This fuel is not tied to or affected by finite petroleum reserves or the volatile nature of the petroleum market. Thus fuel costs for GET SGR generators can be expected to remain stable, with very modest, gradual cost increases for many decades. This is very advantageous for long term planning and economic stability. GET SGRs are designed as standard, factory built modular systems, with mostly standard, “off the shelf”, plug & play components. This ensures long term serviceability and parts availability from many sources.  GET SGRs produce very high quality, stable power, suitable for computers and other high tech equipment & infrastructure. GET SGR power systems offer the following environmental advantages: They do not emit any C02, other greenhouse gasses, or other air pollution. GET SGR power systems do not produce any water pollution. Rather, water purification can be incorporated into GET SGR projects. GET SGR power projects require very little space, conserving use of land. Long range power transmission lines are normally not required, further conserving land and improving the appearance of our environment. GET SGR power systems have a modest cooling water requirement. By incorporating water desalination into the project, this modest cooling requirement can be almost totally eliminated.
