Often, well water contains excessive iron & manganese. In addition, bacteria problems are present as well. The most effective solution to these problems is a GET system combining ozone and filtration. Such systems utilize ozone to oxidize the iron & manganese, making them easy to filter out. The ozone also kills the bacteria.

Ozone molecules contain three oxygen atoms (O3), while oxygen molecules found in the atmosphere contain two oxygen atoms (O2).  The properties of the two types of oxygen molecules are quite different. Ozone is a very potent oxidizer, and as such is effective in pathogen destruction.  As the ozone attacks pathogens or oxidizes iron & manganese, it breaks down into O2 molecules.  Since ozone has a 20-minute half-life, it continues breaking down gradually into O2, leaving additional dissolved oxygen in the water.  Dissolved oxygen is the most important component of good drinking water taste.  So adding some dissolved oxygen enhances the taste of the water.

Pathogens effectively killed by ozone include the common but dangerous E-Coli, Coliform, Cholera, and other dangerous bacteria.  Ozone is also very effective in oxidizing iron & manganese, which can then be removed by filtration. The system pictured above includes an oxygen concentrator to optimize the efficiency and life of the ozone generator, a high efficiency ozone generator, injection system, contact tank to ensure sufficient working time for the ozone to do its work, and an automatic backwashing media filter for effective removal of suspended solids and oxidized iron & manganese. The system operates fully automatically by means of a PLC.
